Individual Occupational Requirements:
Education: Undergraduate: Major study in economics, industrial relations, law, sociology, political science, public administration, or other fields related to the position. Courses in statistics or mathematics (maximum 12 semester hours) are acceptable toward meeting the undergraduate requirements.
Graduate: Major study in one of the social sciences including courses in research methodology and knowledge of the history and concepts of social insurance, the methods of social insurance, and the conditions under which social insurance programs operate.

GS-5: Experience in one of the social science fields (economics, sociology, political science, public administration, industrial relations) or in applied statistics or mathematics in those fields.
Above GS-5: Specialized experience in social insurance work that demonstrated:
Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in unemployment insurance, old-age and survivors' insurance, workers' compensation, disability compensation, or comparable public or private social insurance programs.
