USAJOBS.gov, searched live
Every announcement, GS, SES, WG, WS, GG and the NAF pay plans, searched live against USAJOBS itself. Pick a base and the results cover 50 miles around it, or pick a whole country and see everything the government has open there.
AAFES, NEX and Navy Lodge, pulled every night
The Army & Air Force Exchange, the Navy Exchange and Navy Lodge post on their own careers sites and never on USAJOBS. BMR reads those sites every night, about 750 open postings right now, and puts each one in the same list with its pay line, its schedule and a link to apply on the employer's own site.
MCCS and MWR, already in
Marine Corps Community Services and the MWR programs post through USAJOBS on NAF pay plans, so they are in the list from the first search. The Source filter files them under MWR and community services.

Federal-related jobs only, and why that is the point
This covers USAJOBS postings and the exchange and MWR jobs, all of them federal employers. Contractor jobs on base, a defense company hiring for a program overseas, also sponsor SOFA, often pay more, and are not here. That is a deliberate line, and if you have school-age kids it is the line that matters.
Federal and NAF employees: base schools, tuition-free
DoDEA's eligibility instruction puts dependents of full-time, locally hired U.S.-citizen DoD civilians, appropriated fund or non-appropriated fund, in the space-required, tuition-free category. A GS job, a WG job, or a full-time exchange or MWR job all qualify. Full-time is defined as more than 32 hours a week, which is one more reason the full-time filter exists.
Contractor employees: space-available, and you pay
Dependents of U.S. citizens working for defense contractors overseas are placed on a space-available, tuition-paying basis, and only when the contract itself authorizes dependent education. For school year 2026-27 the published OCONUS tuition runs from about $26,676 a year in the lower grades to about $29,484 in high school, per child.
So the trade is clear
Contractor work usually pays more. A federal or exchange job usually pays less and puts your kids in the base school without a tuition bill. Families with children on a SOFA tour tend to choose the second, which is why this page, the filters and the nightly alert are built around federal-related postings and nothing else.
What is not here
Contractor postings, private-sector jobs off base, and Japanese-national or host-nation positions. If a contractor role is the right call for you, apply to it directly; BMR does not aggregate those.

Why overseas job searches waste evenings
The job is real, the base is yours, the experience fits. Then one line in the announcement says who it is actually for, and that line is written differently on almost every posting.
The SOFA line is the gate
Under the Status of Forces Agreement, on-base employers overseas can only hire people who hold status or people they are willing to sponsor into it. Each announcement says which, in its own words, usually under a heading called "Clarification from the agency."
The same word means different doors
Appropriated-fund jobs (GS, WG, GG) sponsor SOFA by nature. NAF jobs, the exchanges and MWR, are where the wording decides. One posting says "Applicants with SOFA Sponsorship ... within the local commuting area." That job wants dependents of someone already stationed there. Another says "Seeking SOFA Applicants (including ... current Federal employees)." That one is open to the people it lists: a current federal employee who switches jobs gets status through the new job, but a veteran on their own is not on the list. The third pattern is the good one, and it comes two ways: the announcement says it outright ("Open to Public," "Applicants World-wide," "Offering Local SOFA") or it says nothing about SOFA at all. For a veteran who is neither a current fed nor a family member, either one means the employer sponsors, or most likely will.
USAJOBS does not carry it as a field
The search API returns hiring paths, but the SOFA sentence lives only on the announcement page. You find it by reading every posting to the bottom, or after you have already applied.
The exchanges are not on USAJOBS at all
Navy Exchange, Navy Lodge and the Army & Air Force Exchange post on their own careers sites. Searching USAJOBS all day will not show them. About 750 of their jobs are open right now, and they are a large share of the on-base openings at many installations.
How the search works now
Five pieces, in the order you meet them.
1Pick a base, or a whole country
Type the country and the first suggestion is the country itself, "Japan" or "Germany", with everything USAJOBS has open there. Type a base and the picker offers the exact names USAJOBS uses, "Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan", "Kadena Air Base Okinawa, Japan", "Ramstein, Germany", "Naples, Italy", "Rota, Spain", with results 50 miles around it. The exchange cards and the nightly email follow whichever you saved.
2Read the SOFA verdict on each card
Every overseas posting carries one of five chips, read from the announcement's own clarification line. Hover and you see the agency's exact words, not a summary. Nothing is hidden by default; the chip is the signal.
- Grants SOFA status: every appropriated-fund position (GS, WG, GG and similar) sponsors SOFA by nature, and so does any NAF posting that says world-wide, open to the public, offering local SOFA, or seeking SOFA applicants with no shortlist.
- No SOFA restriction stated: the announcement says nothing restrictive about SOFA. For a veteran on their own this is the good sign; the employer will most likely sponsor.
- Open to current Federal employees: the line names current Federal, CNIC or DoD employees, alongside spouse and family-member preference. A current fed who switches jobs gets status.
- Needs existing SOFA sponsorship: dependents of a sponsor already in country.
- SOFA unclear: no line and no readable hiring paths. Read the announcement.
3Set filters that hold
One results list, and you decide what leaves it. The Source filter splits every result into seven buckets, each with a count and always all listed: Federal (GS, WG and other), Commissary (DeCA), DoDEA schools, MWR and community services (NAF), Navy Exchange, Navy Lodge, and Army & Air Force Exchange. Uncheck a bucket and it leaves the page and the nightly email. The Work schedule filter lists every bucket too, and it reads the title, so a posting called "NF-02/FLX" is caught as flex even when its schedule code says otherwise. Any card you never want to see again goes with one tap on its ✕: Undo if you slip, "Show N hidden" to bring them back, and the nightly alert skips hidden cards. Every filter panel has a Done button, because most of this happens on a phone.
4Let the nightly alert watch for you
Save the search on a free account. Every night new matching postings arrive by email, each card with its SOFA line, so you skip the ones that were never for you before you click. A second block, "Also posted outside USAJOBS", carries up to five exchange postings with the employer named. The email still comes on a night USAJOBS posted nothing.
5Read the exchange cards in the same list
Navy Exchange, Navy Lodge and Army & Air Force Exchange postings near your base appear after the USAJOBS cards, same card shape, tagged "NEX careers" or "Exchange careers" where USAJOBS cards say "USAJOBS", with the pay line, the schedule and a link to apply on the employer's own site. Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) needs no separate pull: its postings are on USAJOBS and sit under MWR in the Source filter. One click builds a resume for an exchange posting in the standard format those employers expect.
Which pieces are for you
Different people at the same base want different lists. Nothing is hidden until you say so.

Can I search a whole country instead of one base?
Yes. Type the country and the first suggestion is the country itself, marked "Everywhere in this country." Pick it and the list covers every posting the government has open there; save it and the nightly email and the exchange cards follow the whole country too. Pick a base instead and the results cover 50 miles around it.
What does "Grants SOFA status" actually mean?
The announcement's own clarification line says the job is open world-wide or to the public, or invites applicants seeking SOFA status without a shortlist of who that means. Employment confers status. The announcement is still the authority, so read the quoted line before you rely on the chip.
Do GS and WG jobs overseas sponsor SOFA?
Yes. Appropriated-fund positions (GS, WG, GG and the other non-NAF pay plans) sponsor SOFA by nature, so they always read Grants SOFA status. Whether you can apply is a separate question, answered by the "Open to" hiring-path chip on the same card: some are open to the public, some only to current federal employees or family members.
The posting says nothing about SOFA. Is that bad?
Usually the opposite. If you are a veteran who is neither a current federal employee nor a family member of someone stationed there, an announcement with no SOFA restriction is the good sign: the employer is most likely willing to sponsor. BMR marks these "No SOFA restriction stated."
I am a veteran overseas without a sponsor. Which postings should I skip?
The ones marked Needs existing SOFA sponsorship. They are written for dependents of someone already stationed there. Nothing is hidden by default, so tap the ✕ on the ones you do not want and they leave your list and your nightly email. "Show N hidden" brings them back.
I am a military spouse. Do I need to change any settings?
No. Nothing is hidden by default, and the postings that need existing sponsorship are written for you, because your sponsor gives you status. If you only want exchange and MWR work, uncheck Federal in the Source filter and the GS and WG postings leave the list and the nightly email.
Where does the SOFA verdict come from?
From the announcement page on USAJOBS, the line under "Clarification from the agency." BMR reads it once per posting and keeps the exact text so you can see it on hover. When the line says nothing restrictive, or there is no line and the hiring paths are open, the chip says "No SOFA restriction stated."
Do contractor jobs on base count?
Not here. Contractor positions overseas also sponsor SOFA and often pay more, but they are not federal employment, so BMR does not list them. The reason this page stays federal-only is the schools: dependents of full-time federal and exchange employees attend DoDEA schools tuition-free, while contractor dependents attend space-available and pay tuition. If you have no school-age kids, a contractor role may be the better-paying choice; apply to it directly.
Do I need an account?

Which exchange jobs are included?
Navy Exchange, Navy Lodge and Army & Air Force Exchange postings from their own careers sites, refreshed nightly, matched to your base's country overseas and to your state in the US. About 750 are open right now. Use the Source filter to keep or drop any one of them.
What about MCCS jobs?
Marine Corps Community Services posts its jobs on USAJOBS under U.S. Marine Corps, so they are already in the search. They show under MWR and community services (NAF) in the Source filter and carry the same SOFA verdict as every other overseas card.
