Adam’s transition

Adam gave the Army about 21 years. He retired as a Master Sergeant (E-8), one of the most senior enlisted ranks, after two decades leading maintenance operations and the soldiers behind them.

Transition is its own fight. A senior NCO runs complex operations every day, but a civilian hiring manager does not always see that under the military jargon. Adam built his resume on Best Military Resume, landed a civilian job within a few months of getting out, and kept pushing for something better.

Then he changed how he searched, and that changed everything. He stopped firing applications into the void. He started networking, going straight at people, and chasing roles that fit his values and long-term goals instead of just the next paycheck.

The difference was night and day. He went from very few interviews and a single offer to three offers on the table at the same time. Two came from referrals. The third came from a professional connection he built himself.

He took the one that mattered most to him. It came with about a $20,000 raise, and it put him in a Veterans Services role where he gets to support other veterans every day. He also walked away from a different offer that would have paid roughly $30,000 more, because he chose the mission over the money.

Twenty-one years of leadership was always there. It just had to read that way to the people doing the hiring. And once Adam started talking to those people directly, the right door opened.
