Christopher’s transition

Christopher's Air Force career covered two very different specialties. Neither one of them was cybersecurity.

So he went and earned a master's degree in it.

That left him holding a familiar problem. More than two decades of Air Force experience on one side. A graduate degree in a field he had never officially worked a day in on the other. And no obvious way to make a hiring manager read the two as one career instead of two unrelated ones.

He signed up for Best Military Resume in May and built his first resume seven minutes later. Over the next ten weeks he built fourteen more, each one tailored to a specific job posting. Defense contracting. IT project management. Operations. Retail leadership. He did not sit around waiting for the perfect opening to appear. He went wide, and he kept going.

Three months after he created his account, he wrote in to say he had cleared every hurdle and accepted an offer.

The experience was already real. The degree was already real. They just had to land on the page as one story, fourteen different ways, until one of them found the right desk.
