Derrick's Story

Derrick is a Master Sergeant in the Army. 19Z Senior Armor NCO. Abrams Master Gunner. Currently serving as a Senior Military Science Instructor running ROTC.

Twenty years in uniform. About to transition out.

His path looks different from the typical post-separation story. He is doing it from inside SkillBridge.

For non-Army folks, SkillBridge is the program that lets transitioning service members spend their last few months working a civilian internship while still on active duty pay. The Army calls it CSP. Career Skills Program. The catch is that you need to land a placement at a company that will host you.

Landing that placement is its own competitive process. Companies receive far more SkillBridge applications than they can accept. The veteran with the better-translated resume wins.

Derrick used Best Military Resume to build the resumes he sent out.

He is now interning at a SkillBridge sponsor company, working toward a full-time conversion when his window closes.

In his own words, the products he built through BMR helped him get there. And he is selling the rest in person, with what he calls his 19Z Tanker squints.

That is the part most veterans miss about SkillBridge. The military gives you the runway. You still have to apply, interview, and compete for the spot. The resume is the first filter. BMR is the tool that makes sure you clear it.
