First Lieutenant (O-2), Army
Career Transition
From
First Lieutenant (O-2)
Army
To
Executive Assistant

I am transitioning from being a stay at home mom for 7 years and getting back into the workforce. I was hired as an executive assistant for a large manufacturing company in MD.
Gen served as a First Lieutenant in the Army. 25A Signal Officer.
Then she stepped away from her career to raise her family. Seven years as a stay-at-home mom.
Then she decided to come back.
That part of the transition is the one nobody talks about. Veterans who took time off to raise kids, run a household, or care for family carry the same operational experience they did in uniform. The problem is convincing hiring managers to see it.
Gen sent over 100 applications.
She used Best Military Resume to build her resume. She used the cover letter tool. She kept the template simple for online applications and switched to a more advanced template for email submissions.
That last detail matters. Different submission methods reward different formats. Most resume tools do not teach veterans that.
She got hired as an executive assistant for a large manufacturing company in Maryland.
It is not a glamorous title. It is something better. It is a foot back in the door of a professional career after seven years away, on her terms, with the leverage to build from there.
Her advice in her own words: use the resume writing service, keep the template simple online, use a more advanced version for email, and do not give up.
That last line is the part most resume guides leave out.
Gen built a resume that got results.
