Chaplain Series Individual Occupational Requirements

Basic Requirements: All applicants must possess:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
A graduate degree in theology, divinity, religious studies, or equivalent professional degree from an accredited theological seminary or school of theology
Ecclesiastical endorsement from an endorsing organization recognized by the Armed Forces Chaplains Board or equivalent endorsing body
Ordination or equivalent clergy status from a recognized religious body

Education:

Master of Divinity or equivalent theological degree is typically required
72+ semester hours of graduate theological education is standard

Special Requirements:

Must maintain active ecclesiastical endorsement throughout federal service
Must be ordained clergy or equivalent in their faith tradition
