John’s transition

John served in the Marine Corps for nearly 25 years, from 1995 to 2020, finishing as a logistics officer. When he got out he stayed close to the mission, working defense analysis and consulting roles, learning the civilian side of the world he already knew from the inside.

This summer he went after the next move. He built his base resume on Best Military Resume in May. In July he went Pro and tailored five separate resumes in six days, each one aimed at a specific analyst, program management, or acquisition role.

The timeline is the part worth sitting with. He applied on June 22. First interview July 16. Offer August 7. Forty-six days from application to offer, for a senior role at six figures.

He accepted a Senior Analyst position supporting the DOD at $132,000, with a flexible schedule, 160 hours of PTO, a 4% retirement match, and an education stipend.

There is a second story inside this one. A year earlier, the same company's COO and senior recruiter had tried to recruit him. He was happy where he was, so he passed, but he left the door open and the relationship intact. A year later that was the door he walked through.
