Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-0640:
Specialized Experience (GS-4 and above): Technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Applicants must demonstrate support duties to medical or health personnel including audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists.

Military jobs that transition to GS-0640
Health Aid and Technician series. VA, DoD medical facilities hire.
Strong alignment as fallback. 68Cs are overqualified for most Health Aid positions but may use this path while pursuing RN education or waiting for GS-0620 openings.
Strong alignment. 68Ds assist in surgical procedures and have specialized OR training. Federal Health Aid positions in surgical settings value this experience. CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) certification enhances competitiveness.
Strong alignment for technician-level work. 68Q prepares and dispenses medications under supervision. Federal pharmacy technician work often classified under broader health series. PTCB certification enhances competitiveness.
Strong alignment. Navy HM experience directly applicable to GS-0640 Health Aid/Technician positions. VA actively recruits HMs. IMPORTANT: Many HMs graduate with EMT certification but civilian credentials may require NREMT verification.
