Individual Occupational Requirements for Support Services Administration Series 0342

Note: There is no Group Coverage Qualification Standard for this series; the Individual Occupational Requirements apply instead.

Education:

GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree, in an accredited college or university.

GS-7 and Above: Graduate-level education in public administration, business administration, industrial engineering, industrial management, or other administrative or management fields related to the position to be filled.

• GS-7: One full academic year of graduate education
• GS-9: Two years of graduate education or a master's degree
• GS-11: Three years of graduate education or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

OR

Experience:

GS-5 (General Experience): Three years of progressively responsible experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least GS-4. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.

Above GS-5 (Specialized Experience): One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Specialized experience must demonstrate knowledge of the methods and procedures for providing or performing a variety of functions and services applicable to the position to be filled; ability to plan, organize, and control work involving diverse activities; ability to gain cooperation and coordinate the work of others; and skill in oral and written communications.

Qualifying experience includes:

• Management analysis work
• Administrative officer or assistant work
• Office management in a position with responsibility for support services
• Secretarial work that included responsibility for coordinating support services
• Military or other work that required directing or coordinating work in a function such as supply, transportation, or similar

Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable.
