Every week I run resume and job-search training for SkillBridge cohorts. When Deloitte comes up, one question beats every other one. "Do I apply to Deloitte, or to Hiring Our Heroes?"

It's a fair question. Deloitte is one of the biggest consulting firms in the world. It takes transitioning service members as SkillBridge fellows. But there's often no "Deloitte SkillBridge" button with a deadline on it. The main route runs through the Hiring Our Heroes Corporate Fellowship. Some people lose a cohort figuring that out.

This guide covers the route and the requirements Deloitte has printed. It also lines up cohort timing with your branch's day cap. Then it covers the part you control most: the resume. You'll see what a consulting screen reads for in a senior NCO or officer resume. Sample bullets fit the practices Deloitte has named. Comparing consulting hosts? The BCG SkillBridge guide and the Huron Consulting SkillBridge guide cover two other firms. This one stays on Deloitte.

How Do You Apply to Deloitte SkillBridge?

Start with Hiring Our Heroes (HOH). Deloitte points you there on its own Military, Spouses, and Allies careers page. The firm says it has worked with the HOH Corporate Fellowship Program since 2016. The "Learn more" button on that section sends you to the HOH fellowship application.

HOH runs the fellowship as a DoD SkillBridge program. You apply to HOH once. HOH says it matches candidates with host companies. It bases the match on your skills and what both sides want. Deloitte is one of those hosts.

Deloitte has also posted fellowship listings on its own careers site in past cohorts. Its fall 2025 listing named "Enrolled in Hiring Our Heroes foundation" as a requirement. So even when a Deloitte listing is live, HOH enrollment comes first.

Deloitte also has an entry in the DoD SkillBridge directory. It's for a GPS Consulting internship and asks for a bachelor's degree. Its length shows as under review. HOH is still the route Deloitte's own careers page points to.

The order that usually works:

  1. Check Deloitte's printed requirements: They're in the next section. Start with the degree line.
  2. Build your resume: The HOH application asks for one up front.
  3. Apply to the HOH Corporate Fellowship: Say in your answers that consulting is the work you want.
  4. Watch Deloitte's careers site: Search "Hiring our Heroes" and read any live fellowship listing closely.
  5. Talk to your command early: You'll need their signature before you start.

One thing to keep separate. Deloitte also runs a CORE Leadership Program for veterans. Deloitte's page describes it as help defining your strengths and telling your story. That page doesn't call CORE a SkillBridge fellowship, so don't mix the two up in your planning.

Do You Meet Deloitte's Fellowship Requirements?

Deloitte's fall 2025 fellowship listing printed four requirements. Read them before you spend a weekend on anything else:

  • Degree: A bachelor's degree.
  • Status: Active duty, with your command's approval to do a DoD SkillBridge program.
  • HOH: Enrolled with Hiring Our Heroes and eligible for its fellowship.
  • Work status: Legally allowed to work in the US without employer sponsorship, now or later.

The degree line matters most for senior enlisted. A Master Sergeant with 20 years and no bachelor's degree doesn't meet that listing as written. If that's you, our list of SkillBridge programs for senior NCOs shows other hosts to look at. Requirements can change, so check the next live listing too.

The DoD side has its own floor. SkillBridge comes from 10 U.S.C. 1143(e). You're eligible when you've served at least 180 days on active duty. You also need to expect to separate within 180 days of the day the program starts.

That 180 days is the window to start. It isn't how long you get to stay. Our SkillBridge eligibility guide walks the timing in more detail.

DoD doesn't run a contest for SkillBridge. The military gates are timing, your rank's day cap, and command approval. Some senior ranks add more. For Navy O-5s and above, the request can't leave a gapped billet. The same rule covers Marines E-8 and up, CWO4 and up, and O-5 and up. The match with Deloitte is a separate call. Two sides have to say yes, so treat it like a job application.

When Is the Next Cohort, and Does 12 Weeks Fit Your Day Cap?

Deloitte's fall 2025 listing and the HOH program both describe 12 weeks. HOH runs its fellowship three times a year. As of October 2026, the HOH fellowship page lists these two 2027 cohorts:

  • 2027 Cohort 1: Packet deadline October 8, 2026. The program runs January 11 to April 1, 2027.
  • 2027 Cohort 2: Packet deadline February 11, 2027. The program runs May 3 to July 22, 2027.

If you miss a packet deadline, HOH says you can still apply. Its team will check whether an off-cycle slot fits your timeline. HOH also says the fellow has to finish the program within their last 180 days of service. Dates move, so check the HOH fellowship page before you plan around them.

Check your branch's day cap

Twelve weeks is 84 days. Some senior ranks get fewer than that.

DoD posts a chart called SkillBridge Participation: Service-Specific Policy Rank Restrictions. The September 2026 version shows these 60-day bands:

  • Army: E-8 to E-9, CW4 to CW5, and O-4 and above get 60 days.
  • Air Force: E-8 to E-9, CW4 to CW5, and O-5 get 60 days. An O-6 needs an exception to policy.

Most other senior bands sit at 90 days or more. Marines E-6 and above get 90 days, and so do Marine officers. Under NAVADMIN 064/23, Navy O-5s and above get 90 days. They also need an OPNAV N13 endorsement. Read your own row, because the officer bands split by grade. The Navy's numbers include permissive TDY and terminal leave. The Marine Corps counts leave or PTAD taken with SkillBridge against its 90 days. So leave can cut your SkillBridge days below 84 in the Navy or Marine Corps. The Coast Guard has no rank limit inside the last 180 days.

⚠️

Check your days before you match.

A 60-day band can't cover the full syllabus. HOH says its program dates flex to branch and rank rules. Raise your cap with HOH on day one.

So a 60-day cap may not end your shot. But it's a question to ask early, not after the match. The same chart names who signs your request, and it often sits well above your first commander. An Army E-9 needs the first general officer in the chain. Our SkillBridge command approval tips cover how to build that packet.

Which Deloitte Practices Take Fellows?

It changes every cohort. Deloitte's listings name the business areas hosting that round. The fall 2025 listing, for the 25-3 cohort, named these:

  • Consulting Services: AI and Engineering, plus Regulatory, Risk, and Forensic.
  • Enabling Areas: IT Infrastructure, Product Engineering, Office of the CIO, and Cyber.

Old listings come down, so the practice list for your cohort may look different.

That list shapes your resume. A practice name tells you what kind of problem that team solves. AI and Engineering points to tech builds. Regulatory, Risk, and Forensic points to compliance, audits, and investigations.

Pick the one or two practices your record fits best. Then build your bullets so a reader in that practice sees their own work in them. A resume aimed at everyone usually reads like it's aimed at no one.

What Should a Senior Resume Show a Consulting Team?

Consultants sell one thing. They solve a client's problem and show what changed. A resume that reads the same way tends to land well with them.

In the cohorts I train, senior resumes often trip on the same few things. These fixes usually help:

  • A civilian title: The rank comes off. Use a title that matches the size of what you ran.
  • Scope in every role: How many people, how much gear, how much money. Leave it out and the reader guesses low.
  • Problem, action, result: Each bullet shows what was broken, what you did, and the number that moved.
  • No unexplained acronyms: Spell each one out the first time. Then say what it means in plain words.
  • Education up top: Deloitte's listings ask for a degree, so put yours where it's easy to find.

Deloitte's fall 2025 fellowship listing didn't print a page limit. Keep your resume to two tight pages at most, unless a listing says otherwise. Our guide on how to fit a long military career on a tight resume shows what to cut.

Officers can check the officer civilian resume guide for title choices. Senior enlisted will find more on scope in our guide to translating military leadership.

How Do You Rewrite Your Bullets for a Deloitte Practice?

Start with your evaluations. OERs, NCOERs, FITREPs, and EPRs hold the numbers. Ask one question of each line. What was broken before I got there? Our guide to turning evaluations into resume bullets shows how to pull them out.

The samples below show the shape for each practice. The numbers are placeholders. Swap in your own, and only use numbers you can back up in an interview.

Senior NCO aimed at Regulatory, Risk, and Forensic

✗ Written like an evaluation.

Served as unit inspection program manager. Responsible for all inspections.

✓ Written for a consultant.

Found 30 open findings from a failed audit across a 500-person unit. Built a weekly tracker and closed all 30 in four months.

The first line names a job. The second shows a risk, a fix, and a result. A risk team does that kind of work for clients.

Communications officer aimed at AI and Engineering or Cyber

The usual version: "S6 for a brigade. Managed network operations."

Now the consultant version. "Ran the network for 3,000 users across four sites. Moved 40 legacy systems to one platform and cut outage hours by half in a year."

Staff officer aimed at a government consulting team

"Built the cost and risk analysis behind a $12 million equipment decision. Briefed three options to a general officer, who picked the lowest-cost plan."

Operations senior NCO aimed at any practice

"Ran daily operations for a 600-person unit. Built a tracking system for 1,500 training tasks that leaders used to cut overdue items by 60 percent."

Look at what each bullet leaves out. No billet codes. No unit names. No "responsible for." Each one opens with a problem a stranger can picture. For more staff examples, see the battalion staff officer resume guide.

Keep a base resume and a Deloitte cut

Keep two versions. Your base resume holds every job and every number, and you never trim it. The Deloitte version is a cut from that base, aimed at one or two practices. The work you leave out today may be exactly what qualifies you for the next posting.

For the general version of this process, our SkillBridge resume writing guide works for any host.

What Happens After You Get Matched?

Deloitte's fall 2025 listing described a 12-week fellowship while you stay employed by the military. Fellows get a Deloitte-designed learning program to prepare for client work. Project shadowing is built in. HOH says fellows spend five days a week with the host. They also join a two-hour HOH session on Fridays.

You keep your military pay the whole time. SkillBridge hosts don't pay you during the program. Our guide on how SkillBridge pay works covers the details.

✅

Getting selected is a seat, not a job.

Deloitte's fall 2025 listing said fellows who finish may be considered for a full-time role. That's a chance, not a promise. Keep your search running.

Deloitte's page says many fellows have gone on to work full time with the firm. HOH says a fellow who shows progress and fits the host gets a chance. That chance is an interview for an open position. So the 12 weeks work like a long interview. Your resume bullets become the stories you tell.

Prep a two-minute version of each bullet:

  • The problem: What was broken, and why it mattered.
  • Your call: What you decided, and why.
  • The result: The number on the page, and how you measured it.
  • The look back: One thing you'd do differently now.

Consulting interviews often use a business case too. Our guide to case interview prep for veterans walks through it. For the story questions, the STAR method guide gives you a frame.

And if the match or your command says no, you still have moves. Read what to do when SkillBridge gets denied before you give up on the timeline.

What to Do Next

The HOH application asks for your resume up front. So the resume is the first thing to get right, and it's the part you fully control.

Start with your base resume in the BMR Resume Builder. Put every role, every number, and your degree on it. Then cut the Deloitte version from that base, using the bullet shapes above.

When a live Deloitte listing goes up, paste it into BMR and tailor to it. BMR rewrites your summary, work bullets, and skills in the posting's own words. It doesn't add work you never did, and your base stays untouched. If the tailored version runs long, click Enhance Resume, then Condense to 2 Pages. A free account gets one private-sector tailored resume, so this can be the one.

Then do two things this week. Check your branch's row on the day-cap chart. Open BMR and get your most recent role on the page. The next packet deadline won't wait for a resume that's still in your head.
